Treads, Risers and Nosing
For wood, there's red and white oak, hickory or maple, with a rounded nose on every tread. We mix a stain that ties the staircase into the upstairs hall and front room.

Our estimator carries sample treads in from the truck, so you can try a few species and stain colors against the hallway floor before deciding, right there by your door.
We fix creaks and wobbles first. Then every tread gets cut to fit those not quite square farmhouse walls and is glued and screwed in place, so the old stairs go quiet.
Each staircase we build is covered for twelve months on labor by our licensed, insured, NWFA certified crew. If a tread ever comes loose, we drive back up and fix it.

For a new hardwood tread, we charge $60 installed. Pull back a corner of stair carpet; if solid wood is hiding there and just needs a sanding, we'll refinish each tread for $50.
A staircase is usually done in a day or two. If the treads are stained and finished in your house, add some drying time before the family goes back to using them.
Yes. We choose a wood that goes with your floors and try stain on a spare tread, tweaking it until the color agrees with the hall in your own light.
Yes. We go over every step and fasten down anything loose before the new treads are set, so the stairs stay quiet when someone heads down for an early cup of coffee.
Usually. We set up the job so you can get up and down safely, though during finishing there could be an afternoon when nobody should walk on them.
The crew pulls up the carpet, pad, tack strip and staples and hauls everything away. The removal is listed separately on your estimate.
With new treads, we collect for labor as the crew starts work and for the wood when it's carried in. Sanding and refinishing old treads is 50% the first day, 50% when we finish.
Yes, a year on our labor for every staircase, and new treads also carry the maker's warranty. All our stair installers are NWFA certified, and Brazil Floors carries a license and insurance.
