The estimator's truck carries sample treads. Lay a couple beside the existing floor where the staircase begins and the right species is plain to see.
Loose steps are screwed tight before anything else happens. Then each new tread is scribed in, glued and fastened down.
Every stair job is done by NWFA certified installers who are licensed, insured and on our payroll, and the labor is covered for one year after completion.

One step costs $60 in Becket. That buys the solid hardwood tread, the riser, the bull nose edge, stain matched to the adjacent floor and our labor to fit it.
Yes. We pull the carpet along with the pad, tack strips and every staple, and the tear out charge is settled when we see the stairs at the estimate.
Sound solid oak treads do not need replacing. Hand sanding plus new finish costs $50 a step, while a cracked or hollowed tread comes out and a new one goes in at $60.

Almost always. We fasten down any loose step before starting, then each new tread is fitted tight, glued and screwed so it stays silent.
The open end of every tread gets a mitered return, a short piece that carries the bull nose profile around the corner so no cut end is left showing.
Unfinished treads often start the next day and wrap in two, and with a lockbox the crew can finish while you are back in the city.
It is. If a tread loosens or a riser shifts within the first year, the same installers return and make it right without a bill. Everyone who touches the staircase is insured and certified by the NWFA.
