Samples on Your Own Wood

Three or four stain samples sit together on a freshly sanded patch near the brightest window. Check on them at breakfast, again at dusk and once more under the kitchen lights.

Fine Grit Sanding First

Espresso and walnut will expose sander swirls that natural oak hides, so we step down to very fine paper and vacuum the whole house twice before staining.

No Blotches or Lap Marks

Color goes on one section at a time, pushed in with a soft pad and lifted before it sets, which keeps the hallway near your mudroom matching the far corner under the dining table.

One Year Staining Warranty

Our own NWFA certified team stains the floor, licensed and insured, with a twelve month labor guarantee. You settle half the day sanding starts, half once we wrap up.

Stain Colors Around Harvard Homes

Light falls differently on a Still River farmhouse, a colonial below Oak Hill and a newer place a short walk from Bare Hill Pond, and each one changes how a stain reads. Here you can see a finisher sealing dark oak, a living room in espresso and a pale hallway left natural.

Hardwood Floor Staining Services

Clear natural, cool gray, honey walnut or rich espresso all start the same way: a sample brushed onto your own sanded oak before we commit the room.

Natural Look, No Stain

Skip stain altogether and seal the oak clear, keeping a light, airy farmhouse feel.

Gray and Driftwood Tones

Soft gray and weathered tones feel crisp next to white window trim and light painted cabinets.

Dark Walnut and Espresso

Deep walnut and espresso stay even across a wide family room, right up to the trim along the walls.

Custom Color Mixing

Two cans mixed together give you a shade nobody else has, built for a single living room.

Red Oak Toning

A toning step calms the rosy tint in red oak, which shows most beside large south facing windows.

Color Change on Old Floors

Older oak gets sanded fresh and can come out a little lighter or far darker than the color it had when you moved in.

Harvard Sanding, Stairs and New Floors

Changing color usually means the room gets fully sanded and refinished first. Our people also put in oak, LVP and laminate, redo tired steps, and patch cracked planks by the woodstove.

Is floor staining priced by the square foot?

Yes, at $2.00/Sq Ft. It sits between sanding and the clear finish in a full refinish, so the estimate lists every step and the total in plain numbers.

Do we get to see stain samples on our own oak?

We do that every time. We sand a small spot near a window and brush a few colors there, then you look at them over a day or two, in sun and at night, before choosing.

How do you deal with pink tones in red oak?

Red oak has a natural rosy tint. A toning stain calms it, and mid brown or neutral shades hide it further. Several options go down together for you to compare.

Can an addition be stained to blend with old oak?

Usually we can get close. We mix two stains and try them on spare cuts of the new oak, adjusting until it sits beside the older floor without a visible change.

Do dark floors make dust harder to hide?

Dark floors look great, but crumbs, dust and the golden retriever all announce themselves on espresso. With a gravel driveway, mid brown may be easier to live with. We talk it through first.

Can the staircase be stained the same shade?

Yes. We sand every step, rub in the same color used on the floors, and add a clear seal tough enough for kids, laundry baskets and the dog racing to the door.

Is the staining bill split into two payments?

Yes, it comes in two parts. Half is settled the morning we unload the sanders in your driveway, and the rest on the last day, after you have looked over the dry floor and are satisfied.

What warranty comes with floor staining?

Our labor guarantee runs a full year. Nobody from outside is ever sent to your home, and we are NWFA certified, insured and hold a state license, so we return if anything goes wrong.

Floor Staining in Nearby Towns

Our stain cans also travel to Ayer, Littleton, Lancaster, Boxborough and Bolton, and each family there still picks a shade by studying it on a patch of their own sanded oak.
In South Lancaster, sample colors are brushed on a sanded spot first, then the winner goes wall to wall.
Near Bolton Flats, red oak can be toned to calm the pink or taken darker before a clear seal.
By Steele Farm, families choose gray or natural from swatches on their own floors.
Close to Long Lake, walnut and espresso soak into the oak under a hand pad, then get sealed clear.
Near Sandy Pond, a mixed stain lets a new wing and the older rooms of a house share a single tone.
