Treads, Risers and Nosing
You choose the species: maple, hickory, red oak or white oak. Treads come a full inch thick and 11.5 inches from nose to riser, and every step gets its own new riser.

Our estimator pulls tread samples out of the truck, letting you compare a few woods right beside the bottom step and pick a stain in your own hallway light.
Rocking steps are tied back into the stringers first. After that, every tread is fitted to the side walls and set in glue with fasteners, ending the squeak on step 3.
Stairs we build come with a year of labor protection from NWFA certified carpenters. If a tread works loose in that time, someone drives back up to fix it.

A new step is $60 installed, covering tread, riser, bullnose, stain and labor. If a hutch or bookcase is in the way, we'll relocate the furniture for a flat $250.
When the oak hiding under that carpet is in good shape, yes. We hand sand and refinish treads you already have for $50 a step, tinting the stain to suit your floors.
We will. Everything comes off, staples included, and then we can judge the wood beneath. Removal pricing gets confirmed during the free estimate visit.
Usually just a day, sometimes a second. We'll tell you at the estimate when it's fine to climb them and how long to wait before hauling laundry baskets up.
Usually. We bring maple, hickory and both oaks to your house and mix stain right there so the stairs sit well beside your hallway.
That's part of every job. We drive screws through loose steps into the framing before any new tread goes on, and glue plus fasteners keep the quiet for good.
With new treads, labor is paid the day carpenters show up and materials on delivery. Refinishing existing steps is billed 50 percent on day one, 50 percent at completion.
Yes. Should our carpentry give you trouble before next year's Blandford Fair rolls around, the repair is free, and the manufacturer handles material defects. Each carpenter is NWFA certified and works under our license and insurance.
