We put down a handful of shades, maybe driftwood, natural, honey and walnut, side by side near the brightest window. Check them over lunch and once more under lamplight.

Dark colors make sanding marks jump out, so the floor is screened with fine grit, edges get scraped by hand and dust is vacuumed twice before a stain can is opened.
One person lays on stain in a narrow band while a partner wipes off the extra right behind, so the color stays steady from the kitchen to the far bedroom.
Our own NWFA trained crew members, licensed and insured, do all the color work in house. Each stain job carries a twelve month guarantee on the labor.

Stain is $2.00/Sq Ft and is applied during a complete sanding job, itself $2.50/Sq Ft. We measure and write up the total on a free visit.
Light naturals and driftwood grays feel airy and hide sand well. Very dark stains look elegant but show dust and grit quickly in a busy beach house.

Red oak has natural pink tones that come through gray. A toner applied first neutralizes that, or white oak can be used in new areas for a cleaner gray.
Yes. We use the same mix on treads and landings and work carefully around nosings so the color flows from the entry up to the bedrooms.
The stain has to dry, and then the clear protection needs time to harden. Light walking in bare feet usually works the next day, and furniture returns within a few days.
Usually. We brush trial mixes beside the existing floor and adjust until the colors line up, which is helpful when an addition needs to blend in.
We split the price into two equal payments: one on the morning sanding starts, one on the day the floor is finished and dry. All prices are agreed in writing first.
