Samples on Your Own Wood

We lay three or four candidate shades side by side on bare wood, letting you see them in bright morning light off the street and again under your own lamps after dark.

Fine Grit Sanding First

Dark colors expose the faintest sander swirl. We make a final pass with very fine grit, then vacuum every corner and seam twice before a can of stain is opened.

No Blotches or Lap Marks

A pad works stain into a handful of strips at once, and the surplus gets wiped before it sets, so one even tone runs from the front stoop door straight to the back porch.

One Year Staining Warranty

Our stain techs are NWFA trained Brazil Floors employees with licenses and insurance. Not happy with how the color was applied during the first year? They'll come back.

/ LOCAL STAINING CREW

Hardwood Staining Crew in Boston

We stain floors in Jamaica Plain Victorians, brick bowfronts on Beacon Hill and Roslindale colonials. Low winter sun through tall city windows exposes any streak, which is why our technicians handle one section at a time, compare it with the sample square and only then seal it.

Hardwood Floor Staining Services

Some people adore plain natural oak, others want deep espresso. Whichever way you lean, we test it on an out of sight corner of your floor before any stain covers the room.

Natural Look, No Stain

A Back Bay condo keeps its oak's honest color under a clear sealer that holds zero tint.

Gray and Driftwood Tones

Pale gray and driftwood shades feel crisp next to white trim in West Roxbury homes.

Dark Walnut and Espresso

Walnut or espresso goes on smooth and uniform in a Dorchester family room, with no blotches.

Custom Color Mixing

A pair of stains mixed in the room gives a Jamaica Plain dining area a color all its own.

Red Oak Toning

Toning settles down the rosy tint that sunlit South End rooms bring out in red oak.

Color Change on Old Floors

Older Charlestown floors are sanded free of their dated orange color, then taken lighter or darker.

What's the price to stain wood floors in Boston?

Color by itself costs $2.00/Sq Ft. If the floor is being sanded and refinished anyway, the whole job runs $2.50/Sq Ft, and stain adds nothing to that.

Can I see colors before you stain the room?

Always. Several shades go onto bare wood somewhere hidden, like a closet, and you have a whole day to compare them in daylight and lamplight.

Will a dark floor show every speck of dust?

Deeper browns do reveal dust and fine scratches faster than natural or medium shades. We'll talk about pets, kids and light before you decide.

Can red oak look less pink?

Yes. A toning stain or a neutral brown quiets the pink cast, and we test the result on your floor to let you judge it by your own windows.

Can you match an existing room?

Usually. Stains get mixed on the spot and tried beside the older floor until both look alike, which is a big help when an addition joins original rooms.

How long will a staining job take?

Most rooms need two to four days so sanding, color and the protective layers can all cure. You'll get a written schedule showing when each room reopens.

How is staining paid for?

Jobs that involve sanding get split in two equal payments: one when the sanders arrive and the other after the last layer and your walk through.

Is staining work warrantied?

Yes. Should the color work disappoint before twelve months pass, the return visit is free, and every technician is an NWFA certified, licensed and insured Brazil Floors employee.

Floor Staining in Nearby Towns

Our color team also works in Milton, Cambridge, Dedham, Brookline and Quincy, and most staining projects can be booked about a week after the estimate.
Near Coolidge Corner, a row of test shades goes on sanded oak, and the winning color is worked in by hand.
Around Porter Square, red oak can turn warmer or richer under a hand rubbed stain, then gets fresh clear finish.
Families in Wollaston pick gray or natural only after swatches go down on their own floors.
Near Lower Mills, walnut or espresso is spread with soft cloths, every streak evened out before the finish.
Near Mother Brook, a stain we mix on site lets a 1980s family room blend with the oak found in older rooms.
