Treads, Risers and Nosing
Oak is our go to, though hickory and maple are on offer for louder grain or a paler shade. We size every tread to its exact spot so it sits snug at both ends.

Tread samples travel to your estimate. Hold one against the lowest step, right beside the hallway oak, and settle the stain color before anything is ordered.
Rickety steps get screwed down solid first. Then every tread is traced against the wall, trimmed, glued and pinned, so luggage thumping up the flight makes no racket.
Our own NWFA certified installers, licensed and insured, build every staircase. Labor is promised for twelve months, and should a step work loose, we fix it.

Count on $60 for every new hardwood tread, fitted and color matched to your floors. Sanding and refinishing a sound existing tread is $50 per step.
Yes, old steep stairs are common here. Each tread is measured and cut on its own, so it fits even when the walls and stringers are far from straight.
Usually a day, sometimes two for a long flight. If you need the stairs meanwhile, we stain alternate steps so the household can still climb carefully.
We test the stain against your upstairs floor first and color the treads on site, so the steps and the landing look like one piece of work.
Most of the time. Loose steps are fastened tight, and fresh treads get set with adhesive plus fasteners, which takes the squeak out for the long run.
If the wood is solid, a $50 per step sand and refinish brings it around. Splits, deep cracks or mushy wood tell us a new tread is the better value.
New tread work is paid when our installers reach your door. Refinishing gets divided, half on the opening morning and the rest after the top step is finished.
Yes, twelve months on labor. If a tread shifts or begins to creak during those months, one of our installers returns and sorts it out at no charge.
