The Challenge
Years of paint had filled the gaps, and when we lifted the first tread we found two splits running the full width.
Our Approach
We took the stairs down to the stringers, glued and screwed them tight, and cut new oak treads to fit each step.
The Process
The treads went on with adhesive and finish nails, the risers were painted white and the treads were sealed in a satin with good grip.
Materials and Finish
Solid oak treads, white painted risers and a low slip satin finish.
The Result
No more chipped paint, and the kids can run down the stairs without anyone holding their breath.
