The Challenge
Inlays are the part people worry about. A medallion is built from small pieces running in different directions, and a careless sander can dish them out. Herringbone has the same risk.
Our Approach
We sanded the open field first and worked the medallion by hand at a slower pace, keeping its edges crisp. In the kitchen we followed the herringbone in short passes so the grain never tore.
The Process
Furniture out, cabinets covered, then three sanding passes, each finer than the last. We vacuumed twice, filled small gaps by hand and checked each inlay line with a lamp before the first coat.
Materials and Finish
No stain here. The wood's own color and the contrast inside the medallion carry the room, under three coats of high gloss.
The Result
The compass reads clean again, with sharp points and no low spots. The herringbone catches light from the windows, and the kitchen and living room finally look like one finished floor.
