Hardwood Floor Refinishing in Worcester, MA

Big windows are great until they show every scratch on the floor. This house has a bay window and a wall of glass, and the old finish had gone dull in all the places the sun hits.

The Challenge

Sun fades and wears finish unevenly. The floor near the windows had lost its shine, while the corners still held thick old coats. A light screen and recoat wouldn't have evened that out.

Our Approach

We sanded every room to bare wood so the sunny areas and the shaded corners would start from the same place. The bay window was edged by hand, following its angles so no strip of old finish was left behind.

The Process

Three sanding passes, two rounds of vacuuming and a final wipe. We then rolled on three coats of finish, keeping the windows covered while each coat dried so the sun wouldn't speed up one side of the room.

Materials and Finish

The oak left in its own color and protected by three gloss coats that hold up to strong daily sun.

The Result

The whole floor has one even shine, from the bay window to the far wall. When the sun comes in now, it shows the grain of the oak instead of old traffic marks.
