The Challenge
Red oak has a pink tone that can show through gray stain and make it look purple in some light.
Our Approach
We tested blends on the actual floor and added a touch of brown to cancel the pink, then picked the one that looked right at night too.
The Process
After sanding and water popping, the stain went on by hand one section at a time and was sealed in matte.
Materials and Finish
Custom gray stain blend, water popping and a matte finish.
The Result
The floor reads as a true soft gray in every room and ties the new kitchen to the rest of the house.
