Hardwood Floor Refinishing Across a Waterbury, CT Home

This house had oak in almost every room, plus a threshold where two floors meet. The owners wanted one warm honey color running through all of it, door to door.

The Challenge

Thresholds and doorways are where refinishing goes wrong. The boards change direction, the old finish is often thicker there and a careless edge leaves a visible line between rooms.

Our Approach

We treated each doorway as its own small job. The big sander did the rooms, the edger did the borders and we hand scraped the threshold so both sides sat at the same height and took the finish the same way.

The Process

We worked room by room, vacuuming after every pass. The threshold was looked over with a lamp before any finish went down. Three coats followed, each one given time to dry, ending at the front door.

Materials and Finish

Nothing added for color, only the honey tone of the oak itself, sealed under three gloss coats.

The Result

The honey color runs from room to room without a single dark line at the doorways. The threshold sits flat, and the whole house looks like it was floored at once.
