The Challenge
Solid wood and concrete do not mix. Moisture comes up through the slab and solid strips would cup within a season.
Our Approach
We tested the slab, laid a vapor barrier and chose an engineered oak with a thick wear layer that can be sanded later if needed.
The Process
The planks were glued at the tongue and floated over a quiet foam pad, with spacers at the walls and new trim to cover the gap.
Materials and Finish
Engineered white oak with a four millimeter wear layer, vapor barrier and foam pad.
The Result
The family has real oak in the main room after all. It feels solid underfoot and has held flat through a humid summer.
