Living Room and Kitchen Floor Refinishing in Springfield, MA

Gray walls, white trim and a lot of morning sun. This floor runs from the kitchen past the stairs to a brick fireplace, and it all had to look like one surface.

The Challenge

The newel posts and stair base break up the floor, and the kitchen appliances leave small, hard to reach areas. Light from the side windows shows any difference in sheen right away.

Our Approach

We sanded around the stair posts and the kitchen edges by hand so those spots matched the open floor. The main rooms got three machine passes, and we kept the light brown tone the wood already had.

The Process

We covered the appliances and the fireplace, then sanded from the kitchen toward the front door. After vacuuming twice, the first coat went on, then two more after drying time, ending with the area by the stairs.

Materials and Finish

The oak's own light brown, no color added, finished with three gloss coats.

The Result

The sun now runs across one even floor from the kitchen to the fireplace. The spots around the stair posts match the rest, and the gray walls look fresher next to the warm wood.
