The Challenge
When the finish wears through, dirt and water get into the wood and turn it gray. Some boards had dark spots and the whole room looked dull. The real question was how much wood was left to sand.
Our Approach
We checked the board thickness first. There was plenty of wood, so we sanded in three passes, starting with a coarse grit to cut through the gray layer and finishing with a fine one.
The Process
The first pass took off the worn surface, the second flattened the floor and the third smoothed it. We vacuumed between each one. After a final cleanup, three coats of finish went down with drying time between them.
Materials and Finish
The wood's own color, nothing added, protected by three gloss coats against everyday traffic.
The Result
The boards from the before photo now look warm and bright, with clear grain and a steady sheen. Not one board was replaced. Sanding alone was enough.
