The Challenge
Old stairs are never level or square. Each step was a slightly different depth, so stock treads would not fit tight.
Our Approach
We measured every step on its own and cut each tread to fit. Risers were replaced with primed poplar so the white would stay crisp.
The Process
Old nosings came off, new treads went on with construction adhesive and finish nails, and the risers were painted before the treads were sealed.
Materials and Finish
Solid red oak treads, primed poplar risers and a satin finish to match the hall.
The Result
The staircase is now the first thing you notice from the front door, with clean wood steps and white risers that match the trim.
