The Challenge
Red oak pulls stain unevenly. Without the right prep you get blotches by the windows and darker lines where the sander paused.
Our Approach
We sanded to bare wood, did a final fine pass and water popped the floor so the color would soak in evenly. Then we laid out samples right on the floor.
The Process
The owners picked from four samples in daylight. The stain went on by hand one section at a time, then two finish layers went on top.
Materials and Finish
Oil based walnut stain, water popping before color and a satin finish.
The Result
The orange is gone. The floor now sits quietly under the gray walls and white trim, and the color looks the same in every room.
