The Challenge

Doing a whole house means keeping one color across rooms that see very different traffic. The living room was worn down, while the bedrooms still had more of their old finish on them.

Our Approach

We took every room down to bare wood, so the worn rooms and the lightly used ones would start even. The fireplace hearth and the baseboards were edged slowly and then scraped by hand.

The Process

We worked from the back bedrooms toward the front door, vacuuming after each pass. Then three coats of finish went down in the same order, so every room got the same number of coats and the same drying time.

Materials and Finish

Bare oak, no stain, coated three times in gloss in the same order from room to room.

The Result

Every room has the same warm natural color and the same shine. The living room no longer looks more worn than the bedrooms, and the house finally feels finished.
