The Challenge
Years of finish build up unevenly. Some areas wear through, others stay thick, and a screen and recoat can't fix that. The only way to get an even surface was a full sanding to bare wood.
Our Approach
We sanded in three passes, starting coarse to cut through the old coating and ending fine for a smooth surface. Edges were done with an edger and corners were scraped by hand so the whole room matched.
The Process
We cleared the room and sanded from the far wall to the door. After each pass we vacuumed so the next grit wouldn't drag old finish into the wood. Then we cleaned the floor one last time and laid down three coats of finish.
Materials and Finish
Plain wood with no color added, under three gloss coats that let the real grain show.
The Result
The boards look new, with clear grain and one steady sheen across the room. Light from the windows bounces off the floor now instead of showing old wear paths.
