The Challenge
Kitchens are full of things you can't move, like cabinets, an island and appliances. The floor runs right up to them, and the old finish was worn through in front of the sink and stove.
Our Approach
We wrapped the cabinets and counters in plastic and taped every edge before sanding. The big sander handled the open floor, while the edger and hand scraper took care of the strips along the cabinet bases.
The Process
Three passes took the floor down to fresh wood. We vacuumed after each pass and checked the cabinet edges with a work light. After the final cleanup, three coats of satin finish went down with drying time in between.
Materials and Finish
Clean wood with no color added, sealed under three satin coats for a softer look in a busy kitchen.
The Result
The kitchen floor is pale and even again, with no worn patch in front of the sink. The satin finish keeps it easy to live with and hides crumbs and dust better than a shiny coat.
