Hardwood Floor and Stair Staining in Lakewood, NJ

This job started with a few color samples on the floor and a staircase that had just come out from under old carpet. By the end, the stairs and the rooms shared the same red brown.

Lakewood

The Challenge

The stairs still had marks from the carpet, and the treads were rough. The floors and the stairs had to come out the same color, even though one is sanded by machine and the other by hand.

Our Approach

We made several stain samples on the floor first, from light to dark, so the owners could choose. Then we sanded the treads by hand and the floors by machine to the same grit, so both would take the stain the same way.

The Process

Stairs first, then the rooms, working toward the exit. The chosen color went on by hand and was wiped in small areas. After drying, floors and treads got their three coats, each left to dry before the next.

Materials and Finish

A red brown picked from a row of samples, white risers on the steps and three gloss coats over the wood.

The Result

The staircase looks new, with no trace of the old carpet. The treads and the floors share one red brown color, and the whole house looks connected.
