The Challenge
Red tones are the hardest to get even. Oak takes red stain differently from board to board, and if the sanding isn't uniform across the room, some boards turn much darker than others.
Our Approach
We sanded the whole floor to the same grit and made samples on the floor first, so the owners could see the red in their own light. The stain was then applied by hand and wiped in small sections.
The Process
Sanding and cleanup came first, then the samples and the final stain. Once it was fully dry, we rolled on the finish in three coats, cleaning the floor carefully before each one went down.
Materials and Finish
A cherry red brown picked from samples laid on the boards, finished with three high gloss coats.
The Result
The red is rich and even across the rooms, with no blotchy boards. The high gloss makes the color look deep, and the floor shines under the ceiling lights.
