Hardwood Floor Staining
Stain Color
Deep walnut brown
Finish
High gloss
Town
Bridgeport
The Challenge
High gloss over a dark stain shows everything: dust in the finish, uneven stain and every pass of the sander. With white baseboards and big windows, there was nowhere for a flaw to hide.
Our Approach
We sanded to bare wood and went one grit finer than usual so the stain would sit even. Before any color went on, we vacuumed and tacked the floor. The stain was wiped section by section so no lap marks could form.
The Process
We sanded and cleaned on day one. Stain samples went down on the floor so the color could be chosen in the room's own light. After it dried, the finish was rolled on, with the air and floor cleaned before every coat.
Materials and Finish
A deep walnut brown, applied by hand and wiped in sections, then three coats of high gloss to give it that mirror look.
The Result
The floor reflects the windows cleanly with no specks or streaks. The brown is deep and even from wall to wall, and the white trim makes it look even richer.
