High Gloss Hardwood Refinishing in Boston, MA

White wainscoting, a fireplace and an open kitchen. The floor is what ties those rooms together, so it had to look sharp in every one of them at the same time.

The Challenge

Rooms with wainscoting and built in trim leave no room for error at the edges. Any scuff on the paneling or uneven finish along the baseboard is right at eye level when you walk in.

Our Approach

We taped and protected the paneling and the fireplace before the first machine came in. Edges were sanded slowly so the edger never touched the trim, and each room's center got three passes.

The Process

After sanding we vacuumed the floor, the trim and the window sills so no dust could fall into the finish. The first coat went down the next day, followed by two more, each one dry before the next.

Materials and Finish

Bare oak, nothing added, sealed under three coats of the shiniest finish we use so it mirrors the paneling.

The Result

The floor reflects the white paneling and the windows in every room. Edges along the trim are clean, and the open kitchen now shares one finish with the living space.
