Samples on Your Own Wood

We set out four or five sample colors on sanded oak next to the brightest window in the room. Check them at breakfast, then again under lamplight after supper.

Fine Grit Sanding First

Deep colors reveal every swirl, so the floor gets screened, the corners hand scraped and the whole room vacuumed twice before any can is opened.

No Blotches or Lap Marks

Our staining works in a two person rhythm: one tech lays color over a few rows while the other wipes right behind, keeping the shade identical from the mudroom door to the back bedroom.

One Year Staining Warranty

Your color goes on by the same NWFA trained, licensed and insured techs who sand the floor. Any problem with their work in year one gets fixed at no charge.

/ LOCAL STAINING CREW

Floor Staining Crew for Whately

Farmhouses on River Road, capes on Long Plain Road and newer homes with views of Mount Esther all have big windows that expose any blotch or streak. Our crew sands the floor flat, tries colors right on it and hand wipes every row, so each room comes out the same shade.

Hardwood Floor Staining Services

Weathered gray, honey, walnut, deep ebony or plain natural. Whichever way you lean, a test swatch goes on a sanded spot in your home before anything is decided.

Natural Look, No Stain

In a cape near Whately Center, natural oak stays bright and simple under a clear sealer.

Gray and Driftwood Tones

Weathered gray echoes the old tobacco barns along Christian Lane in a calm living room.

Dark Walnut and Espresso

A family room on North Street turns cozy with a walnut tone that's rich without going too dark.

Custom Color Mixing

A sunroom in West Whately gets a custom blended color you won't find on any store shelf.

Red Oak Toning

A toner goes on first to tame the pink in red oak, common in older homes along Route 5.

Color Change on Old Floors

Decades old oak in farmhouses near the Connecticut River can be taken a shade paler or deeper once sanded bare.

Installs, Stairs and Repairs for Whately Homes

Color needs bare, open grain to bite into, so staining always follows a complete sanding. Beyond stain, we lay hardwood, vinyl and laminate, build oak stairs and mend damaged strips.

How is staining priced for a Whately home?

Color adds $2.00/Sq Ft. Stain bonds only with freshly sanded oak, so the work also includes the sanding and new finish, priced at $2.50/Sq Ft. We tape out every room at a free visit and confirm the total in writing.

Can we get a weathered barn gray look?

Yes. Gray suits white oak nicely. Red oak leans pink and can make gray look muddy, so a toner goes down first, and you see the gray on a sanded test area in your home before deciding.

Will a dark floor show mud and dog hair?

Yes. Very dark floors highlight dust, mud and dog hair. In a farmhouse with pets and a busy mudroom, a medium brown or soft gray hides everyday dirt far better.

Could the floor stain match our old oak door trim?

Usually. We test blended samples against your trim and doors on the sanded floor until the tones agree, then carry that color through the room.

How many days will the staining take?

Most homes take three to four days: sanding, stain, drying overnight and finish. Stay off the newly sealed floor for one day, and wait a bit longer before rugs go back.

Does stain work on maple or pine floors?

Maple and pine take color unevenly, so a wood conditioner goes on before the stain and we sample it on a sanded patch first. Oak accepts stain most evenly of all the common floors.

Which finish goes over the stain, water or oil?

Both work. Oil based adds warmth and dries slower, while water based stays clear with little odor. We'll show you each over your stain sample.

What if the stain looks blotchy afterward?

Call us right away. For a full year after staining, any blotches or lap marks caused by our workmanship get corrected by our crew without charge.

In Conway Center, a few colors are tested on a bare corner before the favorite is spread across the room.
Below Mount Toby, farmhouse oak gets a warm honey or a cool gray stain, followed by a clear protective seal.
Around Hatfield Center, families choose gray or honey after the test patches dry overnight.
Near Historic Deerfield, families pick walnut or espresso, rubbed into freshly sanded oak and sealed clear.
In Haydenville, two stains blended together let a newer family room flow into the original oak beside it.
