Samples on Your Own Wood

Pick three or four shades and we brush each onto bare oak near a bright window. Live with them a day, since snow glare and lamplight in January change color a lot.

Fine Grit Sanding First

Darker colors reveal any sander swirl left behind, so our final pass uses 120 grit paper. We vacuum twice, sills and heat registers too, before opening a can.

No Blotches or Lap Marks

One installer spreads color with a pad while another trails behind with clean cotton rags, wiping off the surplus, so even a long farmhouse kitchen dries without lap marks.

One Year Staining Warranty

Brazil Floors employees handle the stain, never subcontractors. Every one is NWFA trained, our policy insures them, and stained floors stay guaranteed twelve months.

Wood Floor Staining in Clarksburg

In mill houses around Briggsville, farmhouses along Middle Road and newer capes near Clarksburg State Park, we take tired oak down to clean, pale wood and color it in your chosen shade. Several clear layers follow, protecting that color from snow boots, muddy retrievers and long woodstove winters.

Hardwood Floor Staining Services

Pale natural, warm honey, gray or a deep espresso, the choice is yours. We only ask to test it on your oak first, because north facing rooms in the valley mute every color.

Natural Look, No Stain

Many families near the town library skip color altogether and seal their oak clear for a bright, simple look.

Gray and Driftwood Tones

Honey and golden brown tones feel right at home in older mill houses with painted trim and plaster walls.

Dark Walnut and Espresso

Espresso and ebony shades look rich in a big room, though they show dog hair and dust more than lighter colors do.

Custom Color Mixing

Soft gray suits modern kitchens, and we test it first since some grays lean blue on oak while others turn brown.

Red Oak Toning

Red oak has pink undertones, so we test warm and cool shades side by side before staining an entire room.

Color Change on Old Floors

For darker colors we often water pop the oak first, which opens the grain so it soaks up stain evenly.

How much is floor staining around Clarksburg?

In Clarksburg, staining costs $2.00/Sq Ft. Most oak needs sanding before color goes on, and stain bundled with that sanding comes to $2.50/Sq Ft, confirmed in writing during your free visit.

Can we see colors before the whole room is done?

Of course. We brush a few sample patches onto sanded oak in your brightest room. Check them with sunlight off the snow and again under lamps after dark, then pick a favorite.

Why do our two oak rooms take one stain so differently?

Red oak has open pores and a pink tone, while white oak is tighter and cooler. A single color comes out warmer on red oak, which is why we test on your own floor.

Can you lighten a floor that was stained very dark?

Yes. Sanding removes the old color entirely, so going natural or lighter is possible. Very dark stains sometimes need an additional sanding pass to reach clean wood.

Is gray a good stain for an old farmhouse?

Gray pairs well with white painted trim and newer kitchens. Since some grays turn bluish on oak and others turn brown, we test two or three on your floor first.

How much longer does a stained refinish take?

Usually one extra day, because color must dry completely before clear finish goes on. In cold, damp weeks we may allow a little longer. Your schedule is set at the estimate.

How do we pay for staining?

Staining and sanding are paid in two equal parts: one when our sanders first fire up in your living room, the other once you have looked over the colored floor. Furniture moving costs $250.

Does stain work come with a guarantee?

Yes. Our licensed, insured stain crew promises a year of labor coverage once your floor is done, and the stain and polyurethane makers cover their own products on top of that.
