Treads, Risers and Nosing

Pick your species from four: red oak, white oak, hickory, maple. Each tread is cut thick so it feels planted, with a rounded nose out front and a riser closing the gap below.

Tread Samples at Home

Sample treads come to your estimate. Lay them across the lowest step, right beside your hall floor, and the stain choice tends to make itself.

Quiet, Solid Steps

Wobbly steps get fixed first of all. Next, every new tread gets cut snug against its wall, set in adhesive and fastened, so that creak on step five finally retires.

One Year Stair Warranty

NWFA certified, fully licensed and insured, our stair people guarantee what they build for one year. Should a tread move, someone returns.

Hardwood Stair Crew in Tyngsborough

Colonials on Kendall Road, raised ranches by Long Pond Shores, lake houses looking over Mascuppic: we strip carpet from their stairs, screw wobbly steps down tight and install oak treads plus risers, frequently one day after you phone. Color is brushed on in the hallway itself.

Wood Stair Treads and Risers

Every staircase has its quirks. Together we sort out wood species, paint or stain for each riser, and how the nosing should look against nearby floors.

Red Oak Treads

Red oak drinks stain evenly and blends with the older strip floors found in many local colonials.

White Oak Treads

White oak carries fine, cool toned grain, handsome in a sunny foyer painted gray.

Hickory and Maple Treads

Hickory flaunts wild grain and resists dents. Maple, by contrast, reads smooth, pale and modern.

Painted or Wood Risers

Painted white risers make classic contrast. Prefer one warm tone? Oak risers get the same stain as the treads.

Open Stairs and Return Ends

Where a staircase sits open on one side, mitered return pieces turn the nosing so end grain stays hidden.

Landing Treads

Up top, a wide landing piece ties the last step into your upstairs hall without a lip to trip over.

Once the staircase looks sharp, keep going: sand the scuffed oak in the upstairs hall, lay hardwood or LVP in the family room, laminate down cellar, and patch that sad strip near the slider.

Price for one new oak step?

Installed, each fresh hardwood tread costs $60. Keeping and refinishing what you have runs $50 a step. We count your steps at the free estimate and put the total in writing.

Can we use the stairs while you work?

Usually not for that day. Glue needs to set and stain needs to dry, so we plan around it with you, and households with one staircase get a schedule that keeps the house usable.

Do you take off the old stair carpet?

Yes. Carpet, padding, those spiky strips and every last staple come out, then each step gets inspected. Removal pricing is settled in writing at the estimate.

Can the stair color blend with my hall?

Sample treads plus stain cans come to your house, and hold them beside the floor down by the first step, so the staircase and the hall read as one.

My stairs squeak. Can you fix that?

Squeaks usually mean a step has worked loose. We fasten each one tight to the stringers before installing new treads, and the glue plus fasteners keep them quiet.

Is refinishing cheaper than replacing treads?

Refinishing an existing tread is $50 per step, a new hardwood tread is $60. If your current treads are solid oak in decent shape, refinishing is often the smarter choice.

Stair job payments, how do they go?

Installs get paid on arrival day, materials at drop off. For sanding and refinishing, it is 50% on the first day and 50% when the job is finished.

What warranty covers the staircase?

Twelve months of labor coverage goes with each staircase, and wood products keep their manufacturer warranty. If a tread shifts or squeaks again, we come back.
