Treads, Risers and Nosing

Oak in red or white, hickory and maple are the four tread woods, each 1 inch thick, 11 1/2 inches deep and rounded at the nose.

Tread Samples at Home

Our estimator arrives with a case of tread samples. Lay one beside the floor at the foot of the stairs and the right species is clear.

Quiet, Solid Steps

Wobbly steps are secured before anything else. Then each tread is fitted to the wall line, glued and fastened by one of our installers.

One Year Stair Warranty

Crews that hold NWFA certification, a license and insurance build each flight, and the labor is warrantied for one full year.

Stair Installers in Oxford

We rebuild stairs in Oxford Greens colonials, Quaker Farms farmhouses, Riverside split levels and older homes near Oxford Center. Carpet comes up, loose steps are anchored, and hardwood treads and risers follow, often in one day. Staining is done indoors.

Wood Stair Treads and Risers

A short split level stair and a tall colonial flight need different things, so we help you pick wood, risers and trim.

Red Oak Treads

Warm stained red oak suits the older floors in homes around Oxford Center.

White Oak Treads

White oak brings a clean pale grain to an Oxford home with morning sun.

Hickory and Maple Treads

Hickory shrugs off winter grit from Route 67, and maple brightens a dim stair in a split level.

Painted or Wood Risers

At Quaker Farms, owners choose white painted risers or oak ones in the same stain.

Open Stairs and Return Ends

An open stair in an Oxford home gets return ends that wrap the exposed side of each tread.

Landing Treads

The top landing tread sits level with the second floor, so no lip waits for a toe.

What do new stairs run in Oxford?

Oxford treads are $60 each in hardwood, with the riser, nosing, stain and labor included. Laminate steps are $50 apiece.

Is it possible to refinish the oak stairs I own?

Yes, for $50 per step provided the wood is sound. Every tread is sanded down, brushed with stain and sealed.

Is carpet removal part of the job?

It is, along with the underlay and staples, at around $1.00/Sq Ft, quoted when we visit.

What tread woods can I pick?

Red oak, white oak, hickory and maple. Samples travel to your Oxford house so you can hold them against your floor.

How long are the stairs out of service?

One to two days for most flights. The finish then needs time to cure before heavy traffic.

What payment comes before work starts?

None. Labor is paid at arrival and material at drop-off.

Can the new treads blend with my floor?

We stain them to match your hardwood, with a sample for approval first. Booking the estimate online saves $250.

What warranty comes with the stairs?

A year of labor coverage from Brazil Floors, plus the wood maker's warranty. The crew is licensed and insured.
