Treads, Risers and Nosing
Carpeted steps often hide decent oak, or plain pine that needs new treads. We pull a corner at your free visit and tell you honestly which one you have.

Dark stain over white painted risers, natural oak top to bottom, or pale treads leading off a marble entry: we lay test colors on a spare piece first.
Each tread gets measured on its own, because old North Reading staircases are rarely square. Nosings and returns are cut to fit snug against the skirt.
Stair jobs carry twelve months of labor protection from us, plus any manufacturer coverage on treads. Our own NWFA certified employees do it, never subs.

Fresh oak treads cost $60 apiece, set in place and stained. Refinishing the ones already there is $50 per step, sanding and finish included, with no surprise charges added later.
Yes. Carpet, pad and tack strips all come off, then we judge the wood underneath to decide whether sanding will rescue it or fresh treads make more sense.
Risers are often painted white for contrast, or stained to echo the treads above. Samples get held against your walls during our free visit, which makes choosing easy.
Usually a day or two, varying with the stain and finish you choose. We can work in sections, skipping every other step, so the family still has a way up to bed.
Stain colors get tried on a spare piece of oak until the steps blend into your upstairs hall and the entry below, and you approve it before we commit.
Yes. Our own NWFA certified, licensed and insured employees handle every staircase, never subcontractors, so the person cutting your treads answers to us directly.
Twelve months of coverage for our labor, alongside whatever warranty the tread manufacturer offers on the material itself. If a tread loosens in that year, we come back.
Treads and supplies are paid on arrival at your house, labor once installers show up. No large deposit is collected weeks ahead, and the price per step stays as quoted.
