Treads, Risers and Nosing
We stock red and white oak plus hickory and maple for treads. The front edge of each is rounded, so a child sliding down on a sleeping bag Saturday morning meets a soft edge.

Bring the samples to the stairs, not the other way around. Short tread pieces sit on your lowest stair, right against the hallway, so you choose in real light.
A creaky third step usually means it has worked loose from the stringer. We fix that with screws first, then scribe the new tread to the wall, glue it and nail it home.
No subcontractors on your stairs, only our own NWFA certified, insured staff. If a step loosens within a year, the repair visit is free.

New treads run $60 per step with wood, fitting and stain included. If we peel back the carpet and find solid oak, a $50 per step refinish could be all you need.
No. Carpet, pad and staples must come off first or the tread will rock. We price the carpet removal during the in-home estimate.
We plan around it. Our crew can do alternating steps, or work one half of each step at a time, so your family can still reach the bedrooms that night.
Almost always. Before a new tread goes on, its step gets screwed into the stringer, and then the tread itself is glued and nailed. That combination quiets nearly every squeak.
Yes. We stain a few tread offcuts and hold them against your hallway until one is a match, then use that exact mix on every step so the color carries up the stairs.
Red oak and white oak cover most Hanson homes, though hickory and maple are good options too. Hickory brings bold grain, and maple keeps a light, even look.
For new treads, the install fee is due the day work begins and the wood is paid when it arrives. Refinishing your existing treads is billed in two halves, when sanding begins and when the top step is done.
Yes. Any tread that works loose during year one gets fixed by our crew free of charge, and the tread maker has a separate warranty. Everyone on our stair crew is NWFA certified.
