Most wood flooring companies expect business to pick up next year. In the National Wood Flooring Association's annual Industry Outlook survey, written up by Shannon Gayton for Hardwood Floors Magazine, 58% of respondents expect sales to grow in 2027 and 30% expect them to stay level with 2026.
Rising costs top the list of concerns. 42% named material cost increases as one of their biggest business challenges, and 41% pointed to transportation and logistics. Dan Natkin, CEO of Essex Finishing, told the magazine he expects "a release of spending" at some point in the next 18 to 24 months.
Other forecasts are more cautious. Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies projects remodeling spending will keep losing momentum through mid 2027, with growth of just 0.5% in the second quarter of that year. Builder confidence also fell two points to 34 in July, according to the NAHB/Wells Fargo index cited in the report.
