U.S. hardwood flooring sales at the first point of distribution totaled $1.774 billion in 2025, down 3.8% from 2024, according to the annual statistics report by Reginald Tucker in Floor Covering News. Shipments fell 6.8% to 630 million square feet, the lowest volume since 2012.
Hardwood's slice of the whole flooring industry slipped to 7.5% of value and 3.7% of volume, from 8.2% and 4.3% a year earlier. Over ten years the drop is bigger. In 2015 the category sold $2.059 billion and shipped 815 million square feet, so sales are down 13.8% and volume 22.6% since then.
The report says hardwood keeps losing ground to other hard surfaces, especially LVP and rigid core, and has given up the most in the good and better middle of the market as prices rose. The higher end held up best, which the report calls the saving grace for the category. The decline also eased, after drops of 9% in 2024 and 15% in 2023.
