Treads, Risers and Nosing

Four tread woods are available: red oak, white oak, hickory and maple, each 1 inch thick, 11 1/2 inches deep and rounded at the nose.

Tread Samples at Home

Tread samples ride along with our estimator. Set one at the foot of the stairs and the right wood is easy to see.

Quiet, Solid Steps

A step that wobbles is secured first. Then each tread is trimmed to the wall line, glued and fastened by one of our installers.

One Year Stair Warranty

Crews with NWFA certification, a license and insurance build each flight, and we warrant the labor for one full year.

Wood Stair Treads and Risers

A short cape stair and a steep farmhouse flight need different things, so we help you pick wood, risers and trim.

Red Oak Treads

Warm stained red oak suits the older floors in the farmhouses along Town Hill Road.

White Oak Treads

White oak brings a clean pale grain to a Pine Meadow home with morning sun.

Hickory and Maple Treads

Hickory shrugs off winter grit tracked in from Route 202, and maple brightens a dim farmhouse stair.

Painted or Wood Risers

In Pine Meadow, owners choose white painted risers or oak ones in the same stain.

Open Stairs and Return Ends

An open stair in a New Hartford home gets return ends that wrap the exposed side of each tread.

Landing Treads

The top tread meets the upstairs floor evenly so toes never catch a lip.

What do new stairs cost in New Hartford?

Hardwood treads in New Hartford are $60 each, with riser, nosing, stain and labor included. Laminate steps are $50 apiece.

Is it possible to refinish the steps I already have?

It is, at $50 per step, provided the oak is still solid. Treads are hand sanded, stained with a brush and sealed one by one.

Does carpet removal come with the job?

It does, with the underlay and staples, at about $1.00/Sq Ft, priced during the visit.

Which tread woods can I pick?

Red oak, white oak, hickory and maple. We bring boards to the house so you can compare them with your flooring.

How long are the stairs out of service?

One to two days for most flights. After staining, the finish needs time to cure before heavy use.

Is any payment due before the work?

No. You settle labor on day one and material when it is delivered, never earlier.

Will the new treads blend with my floor?

We color the treads to your floor and show you a sample for approval first. Booking the estimate online saves $250.

What warranty covers the stairs?

Brazil Floors stands behind labor for a year, and the wood supplier warrants the treads. The crew is licensed and insured.
