Luxury Vinyl Plank InstallationIn Woonsocket, RI
Vinyl plank built for a concrete slab
Underlayment went down in rows with the seams taped. Then the planks were clicked in from the longest wall, tapped tight with a block and mallet, and cut to fit at the doorways. Trim went on last.
Concrete is rarely flat. Vinyl plank follows every dip under it, and a low spot turns into a soft area or a joint that opens up later. The slab also had to stay dry under the new floor.
We checked the slab with a long level, filled the low spots and laid an underlayment with a moisture barrier. The planks were racked out first so the pattern would look natural, with no two joints close together.
The room now looks like light oak, feels solid when you walk on it and can take a spill or a wet boot without a problem.
