How much does a new hardwood step cost?
Each new tread is $60. Refinishing an existing tread is $50. We look at trim and repairs separately.
Should I keep the original steps under carpet?
Lift an edge where possible and inspect the wood. Existing treads need to be sound before refinishing.
What matters at a slate landing?
Measure the top rise together with the thickness of the floor beside it. The two surfaces meet at that point.
Can the oak follow the color of pine casing?
Compare a stained tread sample against the trim. Different species can show their own grain even at a similar tone.
How do you fit stairs inside a tight cottage entry?
Measure the turning space and the tread profiles first. Then plan where pieces can be cut and carried safely.
Can you assess a step that clicks underfoot?
Show us the spot that moves. We need to find the source before recommending a new surface.
Will I have access to the upper rooms?
Agree on access before the work begins. The fitting and finish schedule determines when the stairs can be used.
What should I photograph before the estimate?
Take a view from each landing and a close picture of the front edge. Include any open side or curved step.
