Walkthrough Before We Start

Book the free estimate and a person comes to the house with oak, engineered and prefinished samples, laid on your floor so you judge color in your own light.

Licensed, Insured Installation

Everyone on a New Canaan job is a Brazil Floors employee with a license, insurance and NWFA certification. We do not hire out the installation.

Remeasure and Material Count

Room by room he measures, checks the subfloor for movement, reads moisture and counts stairs and thresholds. Prep is never left vague in the price.

One Year Install Warranty

Labor is warranted for a year, and the mill stands behind the boards. You pay labor the day work starts and material as the boxes arrive.

/ FLOOR PATTERN DESIGNS

Hardwood Floor Patterns

Straight, herringbone, chevron, diagonal, parquet and basketweave layouts are all laid in New Canaan homes, and borders or inlays are quoted on site. Plain boards keep a hall calm, and herringbone dresses a formal dining room.

Straight Lay Hardwood

Planks follow the longest wall, which cuts waste and lets a long hallway feel even longer.

Herringbone Hardwood

Herringbone pieces are trimmed by hand into a tidy zigzag, a strong choice for a formal New Canaan dining room.

Chevron Hardwood

Chevron boards are mitered at 45 degrees and meet in a crisp V, a striking look across a big kitchen.

Diagonal Hardwood

Boards set on the diagonal send the eye across the room and make a small den feel wider.

Checkerboard parquet made of square wood blocks turned in alternating directions, Brazil Floors

Checkerboard Parquet

Parquet squares with alternating grain give a study or sunroom the classic look of an older estate.

Basket weave parquet with wood strips grouped in alternating squares, Brazil Floors

Basket Weave Parquet

Basketweave in short strips, edged by a dark border, makes a handsome front entry that hides footprints.

The crew rolls out of 92 Munson St in Milford with the underlayment and trim already on the truck. This job had paper laid, oak nailed in straight lines and every doorway cut clean, the same method we bring to Talmadge Hill, Smith Ridge and the Town Center blocks.

Roughly what will new hardwood cost for a New Canaan house?

Our nail-down labor is $2.25/Sq Ft, nails and underlayment counted. Add the wood and the all-in rate is $5.50/Sq Ft unfinished or $6.00/Sq Ft prefinished.

Can new hardwood go over the old floor in my 1950s house?

Often it can, once the crew checks the existing boards for movement and moisture. Anything loose gets fastened or replaced, and that shows as its own line in the quote.

Do you remove the floor that is there now?

Yes, at about $1.00/Sq Ft, and it all leaves in our truck. The estimator confirms the figure in writing at the free visit.

How soon could we start?

Material leaves the Milford warehouse the day after you order it. Most crews can begin within a week.

What do you recommend for a finished basement on a slab?

Engineered planks that float, because concrete will not hold nails. They cost $2.00/Sq Ft in labor, while nail-and-glue over plywood is $2.50/Sq Ft with adhesive on top.

Are there ways to save on material?

Wood bought through Brazil Floors is up to 30% off. Book the estimate online and $250 comes off the bill as well.

When does money change hands?

Labor is payable once the crew arrives and starts. Material is payable when it is delivered to the house.

We have a full house. Do you move furniture?

Yes, one flat $250 covers the whole house. Each piece goes back where it came from at the end.
