Walkthrough Before We Start
Houses in the old Belltown village have shifted over 150 years, so our crew lead checks each room for level, tests the subfloor by the chimney and inspects the staircase before writing a quote.

Everyone working inside your East Hampton home is a Brazil Floors employee with a license, insurance and NWFA certification, which keeps the project and the property protected.
Measuring comes first, then cartons, trim and reducers are staged at the door and the oak rests in the house, since rooms near Lake Pocotopaug carry extra humidity.
We stand behind the labor for a full year while the manufacturer backs the planks, so the nailing and the wood each have their own cover.

Rows parallel to the longest wall, the layout with the least cutting. A Cobalt ranch reads longer and wider.

Short boards at 90 degrees forming a zigzag, each one fitted individually. Period correct in a Middle Haddam dining room.

Boards cut at 45 degrees meeting in a crisp V down the center. Made for the open floor plans of newer Long Hill Road homes.

A diagonal run pulls the eye across the room and opens up a compact lake cottage kitchen at Pocotopaug.

Parquet blocks of oak, grain turned square by square. A classic touch for a sunroom in Middle Haddam overlooking the Connecticut River.

Short oak strips woven over and under inside a contrasting border. Found in the older village houses off Main Street.

Nail-down labor is $2.25/Sq Ft including nails and underlayment, and nail-and-glue is $2.50/Sq Ft plus adhesive. Material and labor together run $5.50/Sq Ft for unfinished oak or $6.00/Sq Ft prefinished.
Yes, we remove the carpet, pad and tack strips for about $1.00/Sq Ft and tighten any soft subfloor. The new oak is then nailed over sound plywood.
Engineered hardwood floated on foam tolerates the humidity swings far better than solid boards. We meter the subfloor before a single plank is opened.
Three to five days in the rooms it will live in, a bit longer near the lake. Next-day delivery from Milford means that wait starts almost immediately.
Usually, after screwing down loose boards and checking the frame for sag. If the old surface is too uneven, a plywood layer goes down first and we price it on the visit.
Our own crew on the Brazil Floors payroll, licensed, insured and NWFA certified. No work in East Hampton is passed to subcontractors.
Labor is paid when the crew begins and material when the boxes arrive at the house. Should you want the furniture moved, that is a flat $250.
One year on the labor from Brazil Floors plus the manufacturer warranty on the oak. A squeak or gap from our work is corrected at no cost.
